Lets Get Baking

Here’s what you’ll need to create your batch of gingerbread men:

Ingredients:

  • 3 1/4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 tsp baking soda
  • 2 tbsp ground ginger
  • 1 tbsp ground cinnamon
  • 1/2 tsp ground cloves
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter (softened)
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • 1/2 cup molasses
  • 1 large egg

Instructions:

  1. Mix the Dry Ingredients:
In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, baking soda, ginger, cinnamon, and cloves. You’re going to love the smell of these spices!
  2. Cream the Butter and Sugar:
In another bowl, beat the softened butter and brown sugar together until it’s light and fluffy. Then add in the molasses and egg, mixing until everything is combined. This is where the gingerbread magic happens.
  3. Combine Wet and Dry Ingredients:
Gradually add the dry ingredients into the wet mixture, stirring until the dough starts to come together. If it’s too sticky to handle, don’t worry—just cover it with plastic wrap and pop it in the fridge for 30 minutes to firm up a bit. Trust me, the dough will be much easier to work with once it’s chilled.
  4. Roll Out the Dough:
Once your dough is ready, lightly flour your work surface and roll the dough out to about 1/4-inch thickness. Time to break out the cookie cutters! If you don’t have a gingerbread man cutter, any festive shape will do.
  5. Cut Out the Cookies:
Carefully transfer the cut cookies onto a baking sheet lined with parchment paper. Bake at 350°F for 8-10 minutes, until they’re golden brown.
  6. Decorate!:
Here comes the best part—decorating! Set up a little cookie decorating station with icing, sprinkles, candy, and anything else you have on hand. Let the kids go wild creating their gingerbread “fashion statements”!
